Micah Zavacky is from Dayton, Ohio where cornfields and rolling hills live just outside of the city's limits. In 2014 he received his Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree (B.F.A.) from Wright State University in printmaking. On May 13, 2017 he graduated with a Master's of Fine Arts degree (M.F.A.) in printmaking from Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois.
Micah's studio practice is rooted to directly observing the world around him. As such many of the subjects that appear in Micah's work are from his daily life: plants in vases, people at times, and the garden. Growing up, the near-yet-far natural world was an influential contrast to Dayton's urban sphere. Micah's ventures into forests and his days of lounging near lake-fronts have fostered a deep reverence for the landscape and his pursuit of it as a subject matter.
Through the act of drawing, scribing on copper, or painting from direct observation, Micah hopes the journey of making leaves an internal impression of what he has seen and experienced. The artist aims to create work that tackles the nature of perception as a universal bridge between people yet dynamic and distinct due to time, place, and individual self-hood.
